FEBUARY PROFILE.
THIS MONTHS PROFILE IS ON GWYN WILLIAMS . FROM TREGARTH, BETHESDA .NORTH WALES.

Gwyn's first experience of Budgerigars came in 1959 (Gwyn was only three at the time.).His Father had a Grey hen that he paired to an Albino Cock that his next door neighbours had. This pair produced 3 grey hens and 1 albino cock. Shortly afterwards the Albino cock from next door died so his farther gave them the young albino. By now the Budgie bug had bitten and it did not take long for an 8x6 shed to appear in their garden along with an outside flight. Inside were 12 breeding cages. Gwyn can recall his dad purchasing some light greens from Jim Moffat in Scotland and some other birds from a breeder in Yorkshire.

Gwyn recalls the days when his father would send his birds by bus on a friday night to Liverpool, at the time the L.C.&N.W B.S   show was held there , he would then go to the station to pick them up on a saturday night to find that he had won Best Beginner in show. This was in the 1960's. Gwyn joined the L.C.N.W.B.S in 1978 and the Partnership of G.T.Williams and Son was formed which would last for many an year.

Gwyn passed his Judging exam in 1999. Shortly after his dad passed away in 2002 Gwyn received a letter inviting him to judge at The Budgerigar Society World Show at Doncaster. It was an emotional day in the Williams household that day and they had a little cry, his dad would have been very proud.

When the time came to judge at the show Gwyn had Rodney Harris as his Chief Steward and the Scotish boys Andy Brown, Alan Murray and his son as his stewards. He judged the Cinnamon Blues and Yellowfaces. The cinnamon blue hen that he gave the C.C to went on to win Best Opp. Sex in Show for Brian Sweeting.

Gwyn kept his birds in his mothers home until she passed away in 2007. He had a new birdroom built at his home measuring 24ftx12ft and an outside flight 24x6 split into two. Theinterior has 33 breeding cages and 2 indoor flights. Gwyn breeds approx. between 100-160 youngsters each year. He feeds his birds with Bucktons Champion Blend as he finds that there is no waste with this seed and he is happy with the quality. He also gives them Varsalaga Tonic seed, millet sprays, cuttlefish bone, iodine blocks, grit homervorm and for the last two years as much vegetables as possible. During the breeding season he gives them Orlux egg food and groats.

Visitors are always welcome at Gwyn's home and he will help as many people as he possibly can with his birds.

Below are a few photos of his birds and birdroom.
